About FreelanceCalc

Built for people who
work for themselves

FreelanceCalc is a free collection of financial calculators for freelancers, contractors, and consultants worldwide. Supports 15 currencies, 20 job categories, and real market benchmarks — from any country. No signup. No paywalls. No data collected.

Who builds FreelanceCalc

FreelanceCalc is built and maintained by Marcus, a working freelancer. Like most independent workers, he got tired of guessing at rates, taxes, and platform fees with spreadsheets that never quite added up, so he started building the calculators he wished already existed.

Every tool here starts from a real freelancing problem, then gets checked against the official source (the IRS, HMRC, the ATO, and other national tax authorities) before it goes live. When rates or thresholds change, the affected tools are updated and the "last updated" date on each page is refreshed.

Not an accountant and not a law firm: just a freelancer who builds accurate tools and shows the sources, so you can verify every number yourself. Spotted something off? The contact note at the bottom of this page comes straight to me.

Why we built this

Every freelancer eventually faces the same uncomfortable question: how much should I charge? Most calculate a number off the top of their head, underestimate their expenses, forget about taxes, and end up earning far less than they expected — or need.

FreelanceCalc exists to fix that. Not with generic advice, but with real tools that take your specific situation — your income goal, your country, your job title, your tax rate — and give you a number you can actually use. Whether you're in New York, London, Berlin, or Ho Chi Minh City.

How we operate

Four principles guide everything we build:

Privacy by default
Every calculation runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your income, expenses, and tax data never leave your device — not even for analytics.
Globally accurate
Real market benchmark data for 15 countries, 20 job categories, and 4 experience levels — sourced from industry surveys covering 487,000+ freelance projects worldwide.
Zero friction
No account. No email. No credit card. No "free trial." Open the tool, enter your numbers, get your answer. Every tool works on the first visit.
Kept up to date
Tax brackets, platform fees, exchange rates, and market benchmarks are reviewed and updated at least annually — and more often when things change mid-year.

Tools available now

A comprehensive suite for every financial decision a freelancer faces — from setting your rate in any currency to calculating what Upwork or Fiverr takes on your next project.

A note on accuracy

Our calculators are built to give you a well-informed starting point — not a replacement for professional advice. Market rate benchmarks are based on aggregated industry data and vary significantly by specialisation, portfolio quality, and client type — treat them as directional reference, not guarantees.

Tax calculators currently cover US federal taxes in detail. For UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, and other jurisdictions, the tax calculator provides an overview — not a full calculation. Local tax law is complex and changes frequently; always consult a qualified local tax professional before filing.

Exchange rates shown across our tools are approximate and updated annually. For financial transactions, use a real-time rate source.

Found an error or outdated information? We take accuracy seriously because every freelancer using these tools is making real financial decisions. If you spot something wrong — a rate, a bracket, a benchmark — please reach out. We review and fix reported issues quickly.
