The real cost of selling on Etsy in 2026
Etsy's headline transaction fee is 6.5%, but that's never the whole bill. Stack the payment processing fee, the listing fee, and — for a growing share of sellers — Offsite Ads, and the platform's real cut lands closer to 10.75% on an organic sale and 22–26% when the sale comes from an ad. Here's every fee, verified against Etsy's 2026 fee schedule.

Payment processing rates vary by country — the calculator above uses the US Etsy Payments rate of 3% + $0.25. The UK, for example, is 4% + £0.20, and some countries also add a small Regulatory Operating fee. If you sell from outside the US, confirm your processing rate on Etsy's fee page and adjust your pricing accordingly.
Don't forget the 2.5% currency conversion fee
If you list in a currency different from your Etsy Payments bank account currency, Etsy applies a 2.5% currency conversion fee on top of everything above. Sellers who list in USD but bank in another currency (or vice versa) quietly lose another 2.5% on every order — set your listing currency to match your payout currency wherever possible.
Offsite Ads: the fee that catches sellers off guard
Etsy advertises your listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing. When a shopper clicks one of those ads and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges an Offsite Ads fee on the entire order — not just the advertised item. There are two rates, and which one you pay depends on your shop's sales history:
- → 15% if your shop has always made less than $10,000 in any 365-day period. You can opt out in Settings.
- → 12% once your shop reaches $10,000 or more in any 365-day period. At that point participation is mandatory — you can't opt out — but the rate is discounted to 12% for the lifetime of your shop, even if sales later dip.
- → The fee is capped at $100 per order. On a $1,000 sale the 15% fee would be $150 — but you're only charged $100.
The mental trap: an Offsite Ad turns a healthy ~10% Etsy cut into a ~25% cut on that specific order. That can be worth it — the sale might not have happened at all without the ad — but on thin-margin products a single ad-driven order can wipe out your profit. Price from profit, not from materials. The most common Etsy mistake is doubling your materials cost and calling it a price. That ignores the ~10% (or 22%+ with ads) Etsy takes off the top plus your shipping cost. Use the Pricing tab to start from the profit you want and work backwards.

"Free shipping" isn't free — you pay 6.5% on it too. When you bake shipping into the item price, Etsy's transaction fee and processing fee both apply to that higher price. Free shipping can still win you the sale and search placement, but price it in deliberately, not by accident.

Know your Offsite Ads exposure. If you're under $10,000/year and your margins are tight, opting out of Offsite Ads can be the right call. Once you pass $10,000 you're locked in at 12% — build that into the price of anything an ad is likely to sell.

Watch the $0.20 renewal on slow listings. Every listing renews for $0.20 every four months whether or not it sells. A stale catalogue of hundreds of never-selling listings is a small but real recurring cost — prune or refresh what isn't moving.

Match your listing currency to your payout currency. A currency mismatch triggers a 2.5% conversion fee on every sale. It's the easiest fee to eliminate entirely — just set both to the same currency in your shop and payment settings.
